Snakes in Exile – 34 Years of Celtic Energy
Born in 1992 from the lively music scenes of Hasselt and Antwerp (Belgium), Snakes in Exile have spent more than three decades forging their own brand of high-energy Celtic folk. Early tours through the pub circuits of Luton and Northampton, along with appearances in the Club Tent at the
Cambridge Folk Festival in the 1990s, helped shape their distinctive sound: a vibrant mix of self-written songs, fiery Irish and Scottish traditionals, and boldly reworked covers, all delivered with
driving rhythms, warm harmonies, and infectious stage chemistry.
Thanks to our friend, the late Chris Bennett, Snakes in Exile will be performing on English soil again for the first time in 24 years. At the Baldock & Letchworth Folk Festival, the band features:
Luc Baillieul – guitar, vocals
Peter Van Aken – accordion, vocals
Gert Meulemans – bass, vocals
Adriaan Vervoort – drums; percussion, vocals
And a warm reunion with long-time friend and musical companion
Guy Fletcher (Northampton) – fiddle
